This article examines the rational use of water and energy resources as an important area of national economic development in the Republic of Tajikistan. The hydropower sector is one of the country's primary water resource utilization areas and shapes its energy potential. Ensuring energy security and water resources is a key issue facing the world. It is becoming one of the most important contemporary issues of concern in the context of human interaction. Population growth and the technological impact of human activity on the state are exacerbating global problems in the region, as well as climate change. Water and energy resource management and the protection of their distribution are among the most important border, local, regional, and national issues. This article presents an analysis of the indicators and trends in the rational use of the water and energy resources as an important area of national economic development. An assessment of the achievement of the goals of the National Water Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2040 is conducted. The main area for the implementation of the country's water and energy resources and their role in the development of the national economy are substantiated and presented.
